At PreTeX, we often produce companion CDs for our print projects. These take the form of pdf documents of the book components. These pdf files are fully hyperlinked to the other book components, allowing Web-like navigation of a book.
The PreTeX preprocessor is capable of inserting pdf markup within the TeX files it writes. This enables hyperlinks to be included in pdf files without having to create the links manually after the PostScript file is distilled.
